How to Search the Archive

There are many ways to search through the contents of this online archive, based on your researching needs.

1. Search Bar

The search bar on the left side of the page is a great place to start. If you're looking for a specific word, term, or name, you'll be able to see if it's been mentioned in the metadata or the associated transcriptions.

Note: If you're searching for term and it shows up as a result in someone's transcription, clicking on the transcription won't take you to exactly where you'll find it in the transcription. Once you click on the link to the transcription where the term is found, you'll need to use Ctrl + F to find the word on the page.

2. Browse the Tags

Want to see which themes have come up frequently in the interviews? Click on "Browse Items" on the left, and then click "Browse by Tag" in the middle.

What is a tag? A tag is like a hashtag, where the archivist has identified a few key ideas/places/themes that have been mentioned in the interview. So not everything is tagged, and something you're looking for might not be mentioned in the tags.

3. Advanced Searching

Want to really narrow down your searching? Click on the three dots in the search bar. You can choose different ways to search, or click on "Advanced Search" for even more options.
